What I want to know is, on which issues and in what ways did Obama and Hillary differ? What are the issues on which they'll have to compromise and/or
negotiate if he is to offer her the VP and she to accept it? Anyone know?
And how happy are you that Obama won? |

AMAI as you may remember I consider myself a "right leaning" independent..... To no one's surprise I am "leaning right" currently
towards McCain but the sticking point is Iraq and I want those troops home as much as anyone. Iraq, security, economy are the issues I will be thinking about.
As for your question, I have 2 good friends that were going strong for Hillary and their aunt is an Obama supporter. Now that Obama has won, my friends were torn and leading towards supporting McCain. A Hillary VP would clinch their vote back. I thought about it and if I had voted Democratic, I would have voted for Hillary. She did win my state by the power of women voters in the southern part of the state. She also has at least been an experienced US Senator for NY and was a strong professional figure trying to use her experience to contribute when she was a First Lady whether she failed or not. To me her biggest obstacle was to some perceived as a big advantage and that was her husband Bill. I hated the idea of him being back even as a figure for the next 4 - 8 years. She has her controversy, but of course they all do. The issues I have with Obama are a few things.. I'm not crazy about his wife and her "For the First Time in My Adult Lifetime, I Am Really Proud" statement and then Obama later telling the GOP to lay off of her accusing the statement was a distraction from the issues. People were pissed, she said it, she should be the one to explain it. I don't like some of the other company he keeps.. the Rev Wright is just one of a couple of disturbing acquaintances. Even more, he is a first term US Senator for IL taking office in 2005, and has spent most of that time campaigning instead of being productive at least the first full 6 year term. I think he's a habitual campaigner. I don't know for sure, but I hear that when he does show up for US Congress, he allegedly routinely votes "Present" versus taking a position. I think he may just not be experienced enough for me to feel comfortable of what he'd do. At least with Bush, people kinda new what he was going to do whether they liked him or not. |

I really don't think he will choose her for his running mate. I can't wait to see who he does choose.

Hi Neko - thank you for your thoughts on this. It should be an interesting election, for sure. I wonder how many Hillary supporters would feel the same - that
they'd rather vote for McCain than Obama.
But I'm still not clear on the differences in views between Obama and Hillary. |

Thanks AMAI
Personally I am not up enough and anyone else should be able to give you better specifics, but my feeling is I don't think in issues they are vastly different. I think he comes off a little more charming than her. I think she is more blunt and says the things that people don't like to hear and he talks a lot of blah and the faults in McCain and Hillary's positions, but at least they take them. I don't really hear him saying anything specific. There is a reason that the race was as close as it was, and personally I think Obama got more breaks and the biggest being in the FL and MI primaries not counting against his delegate count. I don't agree that those states delegates shouldn't have counted because they moved their primary dates, but that is the Democratic party issue and if he didn't campaign there because the delegates didn't count, I don't think they should be added back in because it's so tight. I personally never thought they should have been discounted originally, and now I understand there was a compromise, but that was Hillary's last chance. I would love to know the issue difference too and if anyone can explain the difference, I am hoping they can explain what the hell is a superdelegate? Can they fly? |

Miss Neko wrote: You did a great job with setting out what you do know. I thought it was pretty close too, on the issues front. Now here is another question. If Hillary had won, do you think many Obama supporters would be seriously considering voting for McCain? At this point, I would rather see Obama win just because it would be something different. Old men doing their war thing - been there done that too many times. |

The latest McCain commercial with the "My Grandfather was in war, my father was in war, I was in war" commercial..... I just don't get it. I
don't know what he is trying to say.... I'm easily confused though.
My mother supported Hillary and will definately vote for Obama. I was back and forth between the 2 of them, I had made up my mind by the primary though, not like it mattered. |

Personally I think Hillary did all the hard to hear tough work for the Democrats. Her keeping her campaign going has given that party a fighting chance in
November as she has that party thinking and considering their choices again.
If she is not the VP nom, that party owes her thanks she will probably not get. I have a question to add.. Had Florida and Michigan been normal primaries and their delegates counted, does anyone think the outcome would be different? |

I wasn't paying a lot of attention to those two primaries. Why WERE THEY NOT normal?

My understanding is that the Florida and Michigan primaries delegates did not count toward the delegate count because they changed the primary date to an
earlier date and it was not approved by the Democratic party. I think Obama didn't even appear on the ballot in one of those states as he focused
elsewhere. When it got to be so tight, Hillary especially wanted those delegates back in as she placed so well there obviously. There was some kind of
compromise reached, but I think the most pissed off should be the democratic voters of those states as it seems to even me that their taking the time to
exercise their voting right was diminished a little.
Again, anyone who knows better please clarify. |
