And how some posters (like starjumper) laughed at her and got banned? What do you think? I think if it happened here, you should get IP banned for sure. But Off Topic? I don't think so. This place is so crazy and what starjumper and naj did, I've seen people do much worse. OT is kinda cool for that, you could say anything and you wouldn't get any shit for it...until yesterday.

IMO it shouldn't be a license to be as rude or crude as possible just because it's OT. I think what tc and her minions did to STH's thread and tc's asshole thread after that should have gotten them banned. starjumper and naj probably thought it was okay because tc and her minions had gotten away with the STH stuff. I don't care what kind of place ot is. Human decency should win out. Problem is so much shit has been allowed to happen for so long that it's become acceptable behavior. I'm aware that the bs that has happened to me there colors my judgement. But I still wouldn't think it was right. OT is dying because of bs like that. Posters get tired of the constant put downs and say fuck it and go elsewhere. Other posters get tired of reading it over and over and over. The shit is out of control. OT should not be for a select few. It was going pretty good when there was a diverse group of posters posting. We all post for various reasons. My reason doesn't make your reason less valuable and vice-versa.

But until then, they should clearly post the rules to what is acceptable or not. Even though it's Diane, we've treated other people much worse. And btw, I think Off Topic builds your "internet character". Either you have a vague understanding of how OT works (or better than vague) or you're a n00b to the forum and ought to lurk first, post later, if at all. The Sucks Admins have a right to be as unreasonable, dictatorial and horrible as they like within the confines of the TOU (more or less.) OT is especially mean and unreasonable, and to try to demand that they change is basically pissing into the wind. Either you accept that the place is unstable and unPC or you don't, and govern yourself accordingly. I thought africandi had posted in OT a few times before, but mostly she posted in LTS, the nicest forum on the board. To say that OT ought to be nicer is missing the point. Why should OT have to be nicer? Why can't people who want to post personal information at a board take the time to find out whether it is appropriate for them to do so?

Ahhh OT, it is what it is. If you post there looking for sympathy chances are you will get some "pray for more" etc. If she didn't know that, well it really is a shame. It isn't sucks proper where she probably would have been ok and gotten more of what she was requesting prayers and well wishes, or even LTS. I'm not surprised. OT will never change, it wouldn't be OT if it did.

When she did ONE poster gave her the usual OT business. Mr slipery got on his high horse and banned the poster for doing the same thing many people have done in the past, and will do in the future. uberJuked, TC, 'Nilla, etc... have done far worse. This was just a simple case of an ex media whore getting preferential treatment.

I just think it's beyond any standard of reasonable decency. Describing a picture (that was obtained by drilling) of a person standing over their kid's coffin and then wishing the poster Happy Mother's Day is cruel and unnecessary. I know ot is known for its snarkiness. That's one of the reasons newbies get devoured there and what makes them decide to not come back. Plus the fact that there is a junior high clique mentality among a group of posters who think ot is their's and their's alone. God help anyone who doesn't fit their criteria of a 'worthy poster' and who has the audacity to disagree with or not kiss their ass. I don't come to the boards to learn how to be a bitch or be mean. There's enough of that already in the real world. I like interacting with people. Getting different opinions. Sarcasm is fine when the intent is not to hurt the other person. Maybe it's my age and/or the things I've seen in life. I like to think that there still can't be people that cruel in this world. It's okay to lightly poke fun of each other. I do it a lot with my friends and family. But going for the jugular is just too much. You shouldn't have to worry about everything you say being twisted and used against you.

I think it's better to be aware of what OT really is, and either post or not in that forum. If it's not for you, the easy answer is to not post there. OT is "theirs" and so they have the right to make the rules. I find it informative for learning how that segment of the population conducts itself. I wouldn't advise spending too much time there, but it's better to have it as an outlet when one wants to vent spleen. Just be aware: what you say can and probably will be used against you.

I just don't post as much. It used to take a long time to read through the threads that I liked. Now there's so few of them that I'm done in no time. Plus there really just isn't much to respond to any more. I do have to admit to deriving some pleasure by how slow OT has become compared to the past. It's just not worth it anymore. I don't think it's beng too sensy Maggie. I think it's just getting sick of it. The STH threads were way over the top and should never have been allowed to stay.

When I go I just read the thread titles and decide what looks interesting that day. Oh, wait - I have one thread I hang in sometimes now - Quaffetti's NFL thread.
